Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How many people come to Vegans Unite! events?

Anywhere between 6 and 60+. There are usually between 10 and 20 people at any event, though Sunday lunches and picnics can attract more than 30.

  2. How old are the people who come to Vegans Unite! events?

Anywhere from newborns upwards. The average age is probably in the thirties, though we don't really keep statistics on this sort of thing!

  3. Why do you insist on firm RSVPs and via email only?

Many of our venues are very small and/or very busy. We try to make bookings, if possible, so that all those who wish to attend a Vegans Unite! event can get a place and have fun. When people who have RSVPed don't turn up or when people turn up without RSVPing on time, it creates problems for both the management of the venues and for the organisers of the event.

We insist on email contact at all times because it is the most efficient way of communicating information. For example, it has been necessary to change the venue of a scheduled event after the original venue closed down unexpectedly. It would have been impossible to disseminate the change of venue by any other means!

  4. Why doesn't Vegans Unite! organise pot-luck dinners?

Pot-luck dinners require a suitable venue, lots of cooking and cleaning, and generally, far too much effort. It is quicker, simpler, and even cheaper at times to visit an established food outlet and to give them our custom and support. And there's no washing up afterwards...

  5. How can I find out who is coming to a Vegans Unite! event?

Vegans Unite! respects the privacy of those who RSVP and attend the events. Just come along and see who turns up.

  6. Does Vegans Unite! take part in any activism?

No. It is not an aim of Vegans Unite! to change the world. However, this is not to say that the world cannot be changed by people who meet each other at Vegans Unite! events. World Vegan Day Melbourne is an example of what can happen when vegans get together. All topics of interest to vegans, such as animal rights and ecology, are commonplace at Vegans Unite! events.

  7. Who organises Vegans Unite! events?

Michael is the convenor (a person who brings others together) and is responsible for organising the dates and places of the events. He is the person who responds to email inquiries and RSVPs and is also responsible for the content which appears on this website.

Andrew is the webmaster and is responsible for maintaining the Vegans Unite! website.

  8. What sort of Vegans Unite! events take place?

Please have a look at our Past Events page to see what we have been up to since 2003.
